Cultural Youth Support Workers

The Flying Dust First Nation is currently seeking Cultural Youth Support Worker (CYSW). CYSTs will support children 0 – 18 in the area of land based cultural, mental health support services. CYSW will be able to deliver programming in addressing positive mental health activity, inclusive of counselling, cultural teachings, land based programming. The CYST will empower children/youth to become active, social and engaged to be included in the family and community. They will be supporting children in group mental health activity, scheduled programming that support children to gain confidence and skills. CYSW showing youth how to be resilient and cope with mental health related issues. This mental health support capacity can be delivered with a community youth programming facility or through land based programming. Children and Youth will be empowered to become active, social, and engaged to be included in the family and community.

  • Supporting youth in ceremony in sweats, round-dance, powwow, changing of life ceremony
  • To provide support with cultural and traditional capacity development for youth
  • To engage youth resilience while promoting health lifestyle choices, education and health & wellness
  • Supporting children in group mental health activity, scheduled programming that support children to gain confidence and skills
  • Provide family activities, teaching rites of passage
    Assist and engage youth in other areas of community development when requested (ie: NAAW, Treaty Day, Seasonal events, Elders events, cultural camps, etc)
  • Attend meetings and any professional development opportunities as requested.
  • Respect and protect the privacy of information relating to all youth, community members, employees, and business affairs.
  • Maintain current knowledge and practice of all relevant plans, policies and procedures as established by Flying Dust First Nation.
  • Provide monthly report of activities utilizing the reporting template
  • In consultation with Health Director, plan, organize; administer all culture land based activities and recreation programs.
  • Work under stressful situations/environment.
  • Assist in community education and awareness activities as it relates to health programs and services. As well as be open to duties as assigned.

All applicants must possess the following requirements:

  • Completion of a Post-Secondary Diploma Child & Youth Worker, or other related field;
  • Must have a minimum of two years’ experience working with youth;
  • Must possess a general understanding of the Youth Empowerment.
  • Must have the ability to train and/or provide youth with instruction;
  • Have a valid drivers license with an attached SGI Drivers Abstract.
  • Must have excellent computer skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to identify key issues and overcome internal challenges or obstacles
  • A clear and solid understanding of personnel policies, practices and procedures
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality and accountability
  • Must be a positive role model living a health lifestyle
  • Must be a team player
  • Current Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check from RCMP
